CHARGING AT HOME - OLEV Approved car charger installer

Given that private cars are usually parked overnight where they are based, most EV owners rely on charging at home to ensure that their EV is ready for use each day.

The Government provides financial support for consumers to install a charge point at their home premises with the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), which will cover up to 75% of the total costs – see full details below.

WHAT CHARGE POINT MODELS ARE AVAILABLE?

CPS WALLBOX EVSE      ROLEC WALLPOD EV            SOLO POD POINT              ZAPPI - SOLAR PV

There are several charge point manufacturers which provide charging units suitable for residential use. Typically the units are wall-mounted, and available either with a tethered Type 1 or Type 2 cable which can be plugged straight into the car, or with a Type 2 socket for use with the car’s charging cable.

For EV home charge points, the Government funded Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), updated July 1st 2016, provides a grant for people to reduce the cost of having a charge point installed at their home.

The grant is set as a 75% contribution to the cost of one charge point and its installation and the grant cap is set at £500 (including VAT) per eligible vehicle. This is a reduction on the previous grant cap of £700. The new grant will bring the cost of a standard 3kW unit + installation to around £200 whilst a faster 7kW unit would be in the region of £300.

Customers must provide evidence of keepership, lease, be named as the primary user of an eligible electric vehicle (bought new or second hand) in order in order to be able to qualify for the grant. Customers must have off street parking facilities suitable for charge point installation.

The chargepoint must be installed by an OLEV authorised installer like us. All installers in have been accredited by OLEV. Choosing a supplier that is not on the list will mean most likely incurring the full cost of the charge point and its installation. Finally, the date of installation must not be more than four months ahead of the date of delivery of start date of vehicle.

More details on the EVHS can be found on the OLEV website.

Introducing the Zappi…

Charge your EV with your PV!

This intelligent electric vehicle charger is the only one of its kind on the market, in short, it enables you to charge your electric car with surplus electricity produced by your solar PV or wind turbine, maximising your returns rather than exporting back to the grid for a lower than market return rate.

The Zappi has 3 charge modes, the smartest being the ECO & ECO+ modes, which maximise

the effectiveness of your micro generation system. You can charge your car with surplus energy, enjoy a full graphic display and view listings of your savings from date of installation. In ECO mode, only the domestically generated renewable energy is used. The house is the priority destination when there is a demand for energy, however when there is little or no demand in the house, the energy diverts back to the Zappi to

charge your Electric Vehicle.

In ECO+ mode, the full amount of renewable energy generated is used, however if additional

demand is desired it may be imported at any time. It will however restrict the amount imported, pausing if there is too much imported as pre-determined by the consumer.

In Fast mode, the maximum surplus energy from the PV or turbine will be used, with the remainder of the energy being imported to provide maximum power with no restriction.

Works with Type 1 (Leaf) Type 2 (Tesla) and the Renault Zoe and many others

If you don’t yet have solar panels or a wind turbine, Zappi can work like any other EV charger in fast mode, so if you do get a micro generation system installed you’re ready to go!
